About Princess House Care Home

Positioned along the picturesque Seaburn coast in Sunderland, Princess House Care Home delivers the highest quality of care, within a warm and welcoming community.

Standing just across from the iconic White Lighthouse at Roker Cliff Park, our home has panoramic views of the North Sea, which can be enjoyed from our own front garden, thoughfully enclosed with glass fences. It’s prime location offers easy access to local shops and convenient public transportation, with plentiful options to enjoy a day out with visitors.

The home itself provides a variety of spaces and activities for Residents to keep active, healthy and engaged with their community, and our kitchen keeps them nourished with delicious meals prepared in-house.

Whether it’s unwinding in the conservatory, or taking in the seaviews from the front garden, Princess House feels like family.

Resident rooms

Our home was refurbished in 2023, and our rooms are bright and spacious and come with modern furniture as a standard, however Residents are welcome to bring their own furniture if preferred.

The majority of our bedrooms enjoy either full seaviews, or a mix of partial views of Seaburn park and the seafront.

A few bedrooms have views of Seaburn Park exclusively, however Residents can still enjoy seaviews and garden scenes from the comfort of our common areas and beautifully landscaped front gardens.

Common areas

Residents can enjoy the company of others in our spacious dining room, lounge, conservatory, patio and landscaped front gardens, all of which have uninterrupted seaviews of the Sunderland coast and Roker’s White Lighthouse.

Princess House has a lift, and is wheelchair accesible.

Activities

Our Activity Coordinator prepares a monthly schedule of events for Residents, which may include:

  • Adapted exercising classes

  • Arts and crafts

  • Board and chance games

  • Manicures

  • Singing and dancing

  • Fairs and fetes

  • Visits from local schools, volunteering groups and entertainers

  • Days out

Thanks to our priviledged location, Residents have front row seats to the Sunderland Illuminations and International Air Show from our very own front garden every year.

Food and drink

Freshly cooked, nutritious meals are prepared on site daily, and we can accommodate a range of dietary needs and preferences.

Our fruit, vegetables, and meat are delivered fresh from our local greengrocer and butcher shops.

Our 4-week rolling menu has been recently updated to include a variety of new, delicious meals, with Residents having the option to make requests if they so wish.

Visitors

Relatives are welcome at anytime, altough we kindly ask that you aim to visit outside of protected meal times.

Visitors who wish to share a meal with a Resident can request this advance notice.

We are a pet friendly home and welcome well trained pet visitors with a little advanced notice.

Prospective Residents can book a tour to be shown around, meet our team and have their questions answered.

Meet the Princess House Team

  • Lynne Harbottle

    REGISTERED HOME MANAGER

    Lynne has worked at Princess House since 2003, and has been its Registered Manager since 2006, when she completed her Level 4 NVQ in Leadership in Health and Social Care and the Registered Managers Award.

    Having gained more knowledge in different areas of care over the years, Lynne joined Ascot Care in 2022, when the Group acquired Princess House.

    As well as enjoying a variety of holidays throughout the year, Lynn loves spending quality time with her grandchildren, the rest of her family, and her grand doggies.

  • Ashleigh Taylor

    DEPUTY MANAGER

    Prior to joining Ascot Care, Ashleigh worked in a variety of settings within the care sector for 12 years, including in domiciliary care, assisted living, and residential care.

    In 2022, she completed her BSC in Health and Social Care at Sunderland University and started working at Princess House as a Senior Carer, eventually progressing to become Deputy Manager in August 2023.

    In her spare time, Ashleigh enjoys spending time with her partner, her daughter, and Kiki, their French bulldog.

Driving:

Take the A1(M) to A690 in Durham. From the A1(M), take exit 62 towards Sunderland/Durham/Consett/A691.

At the Carrville Interchange roundabout:

  • From the South: Take the 3rd exit onto A690.

  • From the North: Take the 1st exit onto A690.

Continue on the A690 for 10.1 miles.

Just before the Priestman Roundabout, turn left towards St Michaels Way/A1231 and continue for 0.7 miles.

At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Livingstone Rd/A183 and continue for 0.4 miles.

Just before the roundabout, turn left towards Wearmouth Bridge/A1018.

After crossing the bridge, turn right onto Dame Dorothy St and continue for 1 mile as it turns into Harbour View/A183.

At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Roker Terrace/A183 and continue for 0.7 miles.

Princess House will be on your left just across the road from The White Light House.
