The Blackwell Suite at The Gardens

Located within the grounds of The Gardens Care Home in Darlington, the Blackwell Suite is a Nurse-led challenging behaviour unit that provides specialist support for adults with complex mental health needs.

The Blackwell suit is new, purpose-built, and operates independently from our age-based care services.

Led by dedicated nurses and supported by highly qualified staff, the Blackwell Suite provides a purpose-built, safe and respectful setting for individuals who may exhibit behaviour deemed as challenging to others, or who are living with acquired brain injuries or other mental health conditions.

The Blackwell Suite can be a home for life, or a stepping stone to more independent living, and we welcome Residents who may be physically fit, but require some degree of support in their daily activities, as well as those who require intense specialist support.

Using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) we:

• Create a personalised support plan for each individual.

• Empower them to express their needs more effectively.

• Foster their independence by helping them develop communication, life and coping skills.

• Provide specialist environmental modifications and sensory support.

• Provide access to therapeutic services, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and mindfulnesss and relaxation techniques.
