Look back at 2019...

It’s safe to say 2019 has been a milestone year for Ascot Care, our team and our residents. Lots of special occasions and events have taken place - let’s take a look back at our year…

Out with the old and in with the new is what kick started 2019 for Castleview in Alnwick. They received a makeover, including a new conservatory, hair salon and re-decoration throughout. The upgrade has been enjoyed be all!

It’s been a successful year for St Anne’s in Whitley Bay, having received a certificate for their achievement from the ‘React to Red Skin’ campaign. The campaign was designed to raise awareness of the treatment for pressure ulcers. Well done to all their team for their achievement.

Opening our doors to you - in June 2019 all six of our North East care homes hosted an open day in support of National Care Home Open Day. This gave everyone an opportunity to explore our care homes, meet our teams and of course our residents!

All ages were welcome to attend the open day, with each care home offering their own activities to be enjoyed be all.

Giving back to the local community is important to each of our care homes. The team at Westoe Grange in South Shields came together in August to collect food, hygiene products and more to donate to their local food bank. Well done!

On the theme of giving back in 2019, St Anne’s in Whitley Bay organised a ‘Memory Walk’ in support of the Alzheimer’s Society in August.

Residents, their families and staff came together to take part in a walk along the coast that managed to secure much needed funds to a worthy cause. Fantastic achievement!

From birthdays to anniversaries, Springfield Lodge in West Rainton celebrated a special milestone wedding anniversary. Resident Dorothy celebrated her 71st wedding anniversary to her husband Tommy! Congratulations, what a wonderful occasion for all.

One of Ascot Care’s biggest achievements of 2019 is that was received the Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award for our dedication to supporting those who have served.

We are dedicated to supporting those who are currently serving, or who have served through many avenues including sponsoring recruits and fundraising for charities such as Hire a Hero UK. Hire a Hero offer much needed support to those once they have left the Forces.

We aim to continue to support these causes throughout 2020.

Healthwatch Durham conducted a report of Springfield Lodge in West Rainton with reassuring results. The report gave us an insight into how we can improve our service and let us hear from our residents.

Overall we were very happy with the results, as residents commented positively on our offer of activities, cleanliness and space.

We were pleased to announce in 2019 that Ascot Care received not one, but two nominations in the British Care Awards! This is for the category of Care Employer of the Year and Julie Tomlins has been nominated for Care Manager of the Year.

We are looking forward to the outcome of the Awards, fingers crossed!

Honouring Remembrance Sunday is an important time of year not only for the Ascot Care team, but for many of our residents as it offers them a time to reminisce and remember those who had fallen.

All our care homes honoured the occasion with a variety of activities from completing a dedicated collage, to enjoying a remembrance themed afternoon tea.

An important event in Ascot Care’s calendar is our annual Charity Golf Day in support of Hire a Hero. The day always consists of fun golfing activities - with lots of teams taking on the challenge each year!

We are proud to continue this tradition in 2020 and continue to support worthy causes such as Hire a Hero - whose work is remarkable.

Christmas is always a special time of year for our staff, residents and their families. Along with our celebrations and parties, 2019 saw us take part in the #NightwearBeforeChristmas campaign!

The campaign saw us collect new nightwear for those elderly patients in hospital who may not have loved ones to give them a gift this season.

We hope to support the campaign again next year!

Another fantastic Christmas campaign we were devoted to supporting this Christmas season, was the Money for Mission Christmas campaign. The campaign saw us collect toys and gifts for the Cash for Kids programme.

The campaign provides Christmas cheer through the gifts to those who may not be fortunate enough to have any. An excellent campaign that we aim to support in the future.
